So its one of those nights before an exam and i cant study as usual, but this time a line that came to me hasnt been able to leave my head for the past few days. I decided to elaborate on it and ended up with this little story. Hope you like it.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
I had been listening to it for what seemed like an hour. Leaning against the porch railing was starting to make my back hurt. Not as much as my ears did though, damn she could yell.
It was a surprisingly nice night out for November. A good night to find people you know and enjoy the nightlife. So that’s what I did. I find my friends throwing a little get-together, so to speak. It’s an average party, people sitting around talking, laughing, you know, the usual. For once, nothing was bothering me. I was having a pure night of enjoyment. So you can understand why I never saw her coming.
A few of my friends persuaded me to step outside for a smoke. No one else was outside, just us in the circle talking in quiet voices, trying not to disturb the pressing quiet around us. This is the main reason it couldn’t have been ignored. From somewhere off to my right the word “You!” came, very crisp and very clear. Now understand, this was no greeting or a statement of surprise. In this case the word “You” was dripping with every ounce of loathing that could be put into it. I’m quite sure that if you could have touched the word, your finger would have burn from the acidity. Shattering the private circle we had worked so hard to achieve, we all looked up to see to whom the “you” was directed towards. To my dismay, my eyes were the only ones to make contact with the horrible glare directed in our, but now undoubtedly my direction.
Sensing the tension suddenly tied between us, everyone slowly made it to the door. The last shut it behind him, looking at me with eyes of pity. He knew as well as I did that when it shut, my only path to freedom would be gone.
Then, using the sound of the closing door as the gun, she was off. Notice that I don’t mean she ran away but that she went right into it, screaming, stomping, cursing, every bit as pissed off as she could be. Naturally, with my only plan of escape gone, I leaned back to wait out the storm. It was what most people would call gut wrenching. I could see myself as a sailor trapped out at see with 30 foot waves bashing at the sides of boat, fighting to stay alive. Lucky for me, I was used to this.
The time came when she was running out of breath. It was the moment I was waiting for. My back hurt, my ears may have been bleeding, and I had just gotten smoke in my eye. All memories of the perfect night were gone. Stopping for breath, she looked and me and ended it just how she started, with one word, “Well?”
I stood there looking out into the distance and took a long drag off my cigarette. It really was a shame that such a nice night had been broken to pieces. There was no reason to try and repair it now. I looked down at her and blew out the smoke slowly and then… spit right in her face. Her face went from a twisted, malicious gaze to a look of pure shock. Using this moment to take my leave, I stood up, opened the door, and walked inside. Ending both the night and our conversation, I closed the door and turned the lock. Her screaming wouldn’t sound so bad from this side of the door.
